Red tailed hawk

No special story here - just a sequence of a red tailed hawk taking to flight from the tip of a tree -

Sandhill cranes

Got a great chance to see a sandhill crane colt and parents, though the views were primarily of their feathered bottoms as they were leaving . . . 

Eastern towhee and young

Got the chance to find not only an adult eastern towhee - but a youngster!  Check out the baby gape in the last photo!

Eastern wood peewee

 It's hard to top this kind of supreme cuteness!

Red tailed hawk and red winged blackbird

Caught a red winged blackbird harassing a red tailed hawk!

Northern Flicker Youngster

And a male nothern flicker youngster, with a reddish wash on the forehead. 

 The shape of these tail feathers helped with age determination.

Hairy Woodpecker Youngster

Male Hairy Woodpecker, hatch year.  Note the color and position of the "red patch" of feathers.  They have golden tips!

Brown Thrasher Youngster

A newly fledged brown thrasher!  Note the eye color and plumage.

Eastern Kingbird Nest

Had the good luck to find an eastern kingbird nest!  Chicks very recently hatched.  One of the adults removed a fecal sac from the nest.  Visits with food were often - this nest should succeed!
